Das Nordkap (norwegisch Nordkapp) ist eines der bekanntesten Wahrzeichen Norwegens und zählt zu den eindrucksvollsten Naturzielen Europas. Es liegt auf der Insel Magerøya in der Provinz Troms og Finnmark, rund 514 km nördlich des Polarkreises auf 71° 10′ 21″ nördlicher Breite.
Lage und Geografie
Das Nordkap ist eine etwa 307 m hohe Schieferklippe, die senkrecht aus der Barentssee ragt. Es liegt nicht – wie oft angenommen – auf dem europäischen Festland, sondern auf der Insel Magerøya, die seit 1999 über den 6,8 km langen Nordkaptunnel mit dem Festland verbunden ist.
Streng geografisch ist das Nordkap
- Knivskjellodden, eine Landzunge derselben Insel, liegt rund 1,4 km weiter nördlich.
- Der nördlichste Punkt des europäischen Festlands ist Kinnarodden in der Gemeinde Gamvik, etwa 67 km weiter östlich.
